Taiyuan is one of the most water-shortage cities in China. For recovering the destroyed groundwater resource, the water transfer project from the Yellow River to Taiyuan had been established, annually transfering 320 million t water. Recently, the Yellow River was polluted that makes the emergency of illuminating the impacts of transferred water to water environment in the intake area. The intake area of the Fen River is focused in the research. Hydrological measurements, isotope hydrology and hydrogeochemistry methods, statistical analyses and models will be employed. Ion contents, 2H/18O compositions, organic materials (TOC, DOC, UV254 and DBP)distribution will be decided. The interaction between stream and aquifer will be studied. In distinct physical geography settings, the hydrological processes, such as saturated/unsaturated infiltration and bank infiltration, and pollutants migration will be discussed in deep. Further, the impact of water transfer on those issues will be analyzed. The research will discover the influences of the project on the water environment of the Fen River intake area. It is significant for water resource protection in Taiyuan and would be helpful to improve the understanding of the issue relating to the impacts of human activities on water cycle and water environment in a basin.
