NiCoCrAlYTa coating was prepared through high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying and its corrosion-wear synergism has been systematically investigated under various loads in artificial seawater. Results indicate that the synergism varied with the change of the loads, which is attributed to the formation of nanograins at high loads in the process of. tribocorrosion. The nanograins have improved the wear resistance while accelerated the corrosion process, thereby influencing the synergism between corrosion and wear. Consequently, the material loss is mainly from mechanical wear at lower loads and wear-induced corrosion made a significant contribution to the material loss at higher loads, implying that the coating has excellent load bearing capacity at high load and could be a promising anti-tribocorrosion material under seawater environment.
