Supramolecular polymerization driven by π–π interaction of antiaromatic compounds was investigated using 5,15-dioxaporphyrin bearing hydrogen-bonding amide groups. The variable-temperature UV/vis/NIR absorption spectra revealed the formation of J-type assemblies via a nucleation-and-elongation mechanism, as further confirmed by atomic force microscopy.
