Research on the Friction Law of TiCx on Rubber Surface in Aviation Kerosene Lubrication Environment

This study thoroughly investigates the frictional behaviour of carbide films on the surface of fluoroelastomer (FKM) under the lubrication of aviation kerosene. TiC x films doped with Cr and Ti metals were deposited on FKM substrates using the cathodic filtered arc technique. The research systematically examined the friction under different loads and rotational speeds in the aviation kerosene lubrication environment, compared to dry friction conditions, as well as the impact on the microstructure and tribological properties of the films. The results demonstrate that under aviation kerosene lubrication, the TiC x films significantly reduce the friction coefficient and wear compared to dry friction conditions. Specifically, under the lubrication condition of aviation kerosene, the friction coefficient of the TiC x film decreased by an average of about 5.5 times, achieving optimal friction performance at a load of 2   N and a speed of 500   rpm, with the friction coefficient reduced by approximately 6.4 times compared to the original FKM. Additionally, under the lubrication condition of aviation kerosene, the formed boundary lubrication film isolated the direct contact between the steel ball and the film, resulting in narrow wear scars and slight wear. The wear debris was pushed to one side, and the formation of a transfer film reduced the diffusion of wear debris, effectively lowering the friction coefficient and wear. This study highlights the significant role of the oily environment in reducing the friction and wear of TiC x films on rubber surfaces.
