A method of exchanging an implantable medical device for lubrication of a synovial knee or hip joint with a solid lubricant, said method comprising the steps of:a. creating an incision in the patient,b. removing the implanted medical device from the patient, andc. inserting a new medical device, andd. suturing or stapling the incision.
